Located on the Mediterranean coast in the Cote d’Azur region, 900 km away from Paris, Cannes has become one of the best-known cities of the French Riviera. Here you can enjoy a mild climate and a host of celebrity-attracting events, one of which is the Cannes Film Festival. You can get lost among the labyrinth of narrow streets, passageways and tiny squares during the day, while during the night you can enjoy the casinos or clubs. The lush vegetation with Mediterranean flow in bloom all year round and the azure blue of the sea, with wooded mountains in the background make Cannes deserve the name Jewel in the crown of the Cote d’Azur.
Cannes Highlights:
Chapelle Bellini: Constructed in 1880 by Count Vitali, it originally belonged to Serbian Princess Kara-Georgevich. Later self-taught painter Emanuele Bellini made it his studio.
Galimard: The Galimard Parfumerie is situated near the perfume capital of the world, Grasse. Here you can learn how perfumes are made and professionals can even help you design your own perfume.
Ile Saint-Honorat: Is an island on which a monastery founded by Christian monk Honoratus is situated. The main attractions here are the Notre Dame de Lerins abbey, the austere architecture of the monastery, shops selling items made by monks, chapels, churches and a dramatic coastline.
Molinard: This is a perfume center where some of the most expensive and sweet-smelling ingredients mix to form signature scents. A flower-strewn villa decked with antiques is the main attraction. On display here are bottles and atomizers of Baccarat, Lalique and the like.
Tour du Masque: According to legend, this 12th century tower is believed to be haunted by the ghost of the “Man in the Iron Mask.”
Villa Rothschild: This luxurious villa with exotic gardens and pink marble columns also houses the municipal library.
Shopping: When in Cannes, the place to shop is between Boulevard La Croisette and rue d'Antibes. Here you’ll find designer labels like Chanel, Gucci and Dior.
For all the Riviera’s fame as a holiday destination, the boutique hotel revolution was a long time coming. Maybe it’s because the archetypal Cannes experience has always been about old-fashioned white-marble luxury. These days, however, the big old palaces are no longer the only game in town — smaller, more design-conscious hot ...
Not every hotel perched on the edge of the French Riviera is a glitzy behemoth or an art-deco palace — although from certain vantage points it certainly seems that way. The Yaktsa is a small luxury hotel that places the glamour of the region into a more intimate setting. The hotel’s laid-back, Moroccan-tinged version of Cannes’ ...
The Art Deco king of the Croisette has seen some ups and downs throughout the decades since its 1929 opening; but today, after a thorough renovation, the Hotel Martinez is poised to recapture its place of honor along Cannes’s famed oceanfront promenade.
Many hotels less secure in their sense of historical importance trowel o ...
For the discerning traveler, Le Mas Candille is a welcome rest from the bustle of the Côte D'Azur. Though just seven kilometers from Cannes, the quiet hillside village of Mougins stands in stark contrast to the tourist mecca of the Riviera.
The hotel itself is a converted 18th-century Provençal farmhouse (or &ldqu ...
No hotel market is immune to change. But the scene in Cannes along La Croisette has looked more or less like it does now for the better part of a century. And among the grand old luxury hotels along the beachfront promenade, the Majestic is one of the most celebrated. This Art Deco palace dates back to the Twenties, and in the present day it&rsq ...
You might expect a place like Cannes to be crowded with excellent hotels, but in a place with guaranteed high occupancy, there’s little incentive to excel, and standards do occasionally slip. So when one of the old guard undergoes a facelift, one hopes for the best — and when a fairly average hotel on the marina is re-invented as the ...
