Home to one of Europe’s largest stock exchanges, Frankfurt-am Main is a city of skyscrapers jaggedly poking at the clouds. It is the largest financial and transportation center in Germany and the largest financial center in continental Europe. Frankfurt is not only a city about finance though; it is Berlin’s number one rival in nightlife and history. The city is especially fond of dance music; in particular the popular techno beat. Frankfurt has a rich collection of museums, showcasing the history of today’s “Frankfurters.” Known to English speakers simply as Frankfurt, locals like to use the full name Frankfurt-am Main when they wish to distinguish it from the smaller “Frankfurt” in the state of Bradenburg, Frankfurt (Oder).
Frankfurt Highlights
Deutsche Borse:Centrally located, this historic building was once the site of the German Stock Market and is today a representation of growth and economic supremacy.
Ater Oper :Built in 1880, this old opera house was recognized for its architecture and magnificent acoustics. Although it has been replaced today with a more contemporary version, it is still no match for the original when it comes to style and absolute elegance both inside and out.
Main Tower:For the perfect spot to see panoramic views of the cityscape below, standing 54 floors above the ground on the observation tower will give you that absolute magnificent view.
Stadtwald:Owned by the public, enter these woods to see the beautiful array of flowers and trees while you meander through the tracks to find a picnic spot for the family.
Deutsches Architekturmuseum:Situated in an elegant 19th century country manor house, the architecture museum portrays the growth and development of German architecture from the earliest communities to today’s modern towns and cities.
One might expect the hotels in Germany’s banking capital to tend toward the traditional side, perhaps confined to the city’s signature skyscrapers. This may be in some measure true, but there’s more to Frankfurt than finance. Around the corner from the Hauptbahnhof station is a hotel that caters to a different crowd altogether: ...
We expect big things from German design and Roomers doesn’t disappoint. Oana Rosen, a leader of Frankfurt’s new wave of repurposing old work spaces into cozy living spaces, has transformed this abandoned office building into a monument of elegant modern hospitality design.
Stepping into the lobby it feels less like a w ...
As they expand across Germany, one thing the 25hours group can’t be accused of doing is repeating themselves. The Hamburg version looks like it’s from space, and the other Frankfurt outpost is a partnership with Levi’s, and is decorated accordingly. This one, in Frankfurt’s east end, was created by a local nightclub impre ...
You’d expect the top-flight business hotels in Frankfurt, the financial center of Germany, to be skyscraperish modern glass-and-metal affairs. And quite often you’d be right. The Villa Kennedy, though, is something a bit different. Though it’s a high-end modern luxury business hotel, like the other Rocco Forte hotels it’s ...
Space concerns prohibit us from saying its name more than once, so here it is, eccentric capitalization and all: 25hours Hotel tailored by Levi’s is, as you may have gathered, a collaboration between the German budget-boutique group 25hours and the American denim company. Let’s just be thankful they named it in English and not in Ger ...
The Pure’s former life as a textile factory leaves little trace on what’s now Frankfurt’s sleekest hotel. There’s nothing you’d call industrial-chic, no exposed brick or metalwork or funky old doors: this place is as smooth and white and cool as an eggshell. White marble, white leather, white lacquer — the cel ...
