Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is a premier European city. Characterized by its charming parks, inspirational museums and vibrant nightlife, Budapest is among Europe's most alluring and enchanting cities. The Danube River carves a path through the city center creating the Buda and Pest neighborhoods on either side of the river. The result is a city of bridges featuring a wide variety of architectural styles; both modern and historical.
Budapest Highlights:
Walking Tours: Most attractions throughout the city are easily accessible by foot. You can choose to be adventurous and go it alone or sign up for a private guided tour of the city.
Bridges: No matter how you go about it, your tour must include the bridges Budapest is famous for. The Chain Bridge has been the most-photographed bridge over the years due to its unique construction. Arpad Bridge is the longest bridge in Budapest and the Margaret Bridge makes a 35 degree turn halfway across as it provides access to Margaret Island.
Margaret Island: Situated in the neighborhood of Buda, the island's extensive parks provide visitors pleasant places to wander and relax on a sunny afternoon.
Castle Hill: Located on the western side of the Danube River. The Royal Palace is the primary landmark. The palace has never actually been lived in but it now houses several museums and galleries.
Parliament Building: The legislature conducts its affairs in this gothic gem of a building that overlooks the Danube. It is worth visiting just to look at the interior architecture, however you need to be on a free guided tour to enter the Parliament building.
Thermal Baths: After a long day of sightseeing, relax your tired feet and aching muscles in a traditional Turkish bath at one of the many spas in the city (Budapest dubs itself ‘the city of spas’). For more information visit Spa Budapest.
What was until recently a not-terribly-exciting business hotel is now the Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge, a new link in the very stylish Parisian chain. It’s not a sea change — the building won’t be joining the ranks of Budapest’s architectural monuments anytime soon — but it is a thorough redesign, one that leaves t ...
Somewhere between a stately, old-fashioned grand hotel and a fun, funky little boutique hotel, there’s a gray area where you’ll find the President Hotel. Not literally, of course — try telling that to your cab driver and we can’t be held responsible for where you’ll end up. Best just to mention that it’s right ...
No, the Zara is nothing to do with the Spanish fashion chain of the same name — just the same catchy couple of syllables. But a case could be made that there’s an accidental similarity between the clothing brand and the Budapest boutique hotel. After all, it’s sharp and modern, with plenty of basic black, and looks just as good ...
Four Seasons Gresham Palace? On Roosevelt Square? Names aside, everything else about it is pure home-grown Art Nouveau Budapest romance. It’s in one of the city’s most auspicious locations, just off the Pest side of the Chain Bridge, and the square provides a perfect vantage point for taking in the whole building at once. Of course i ...
