LLuxe City Guide Overview

The City of Mumbai:

Mumbai, which was once called Bombay, is the largest metropolitan city in India. It is also referred to as the financial capital of the country and serves as India’s primary communications centre. Nightlife is a major attraction of this city, and it is the prime target of the tourists visiting India. This cosmopolitan hub of the nation faultlessly houses a perfect blend of culture, tradition, and architecture. This Fashion City of India is well-known for its style statements and is popular for its shopping choices. Mumbai is also known as the home of Bollywood, the center of the Hindi film and television industries.

Mumbai’s Highlights:

  • The Gateway of India: This elegant ceremonial archway is also referred to as the Signature Mark of the City. It was constructed to honor the arrival of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911.

  • Elephanta Caves: A brief boat trip to Elephanta Island will lead you to the vision of these splendid caves, which are believed to have been erected between the 5th and 8th centuries. To conserve and safeguard this beautiful piece of art, the island was nominated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

  • Marine Drive: This 3-km stretch concourse is a very attractive vision that cannot be missed while visiting Mumbai. This place is lovingly called the “Queen’s Necklace,” as the view at night along the drive makes the street lights resemble the pearls of a necklace.

  • Prince of Wales Museum: This interesting example of Indo-Saracenic structural design was constructed during the early years of the 20th century to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales. The museum has a total collection of 50,000 artifacts and is a treasure house for art, archaeology and natural history.

The Oberoi, Mumbai (Hotels)

Mumbai may surprise you — it's a forward-looking, cosmopolitan, international city, modern where New Delhi is historical; and its hotels reflect this fact. This is, after all, Bollywood, home to India's film and entertainment industries (as well as its financial center), legendary for its nightlife, and known around India as the &l ...

Vivanta by Taj - President (Hotels)

Taj enthusiasts will be happy to know that the Vivanta sub-brand is more notable for its similarities with the Taj flagships than for its differences. The Vivanta by Taj - President occupies a modern tower in central Mumbai’s Colaba district, rather than a historic waterfront structure like the Taj Mahal Palace, across town. But beyond acc ...

The Taj Mahal Palace and Tower (Hotels)

No, they haven't gone and turned the original Taj Mahal into a hotel — but this place is so impressive that it would be easy to forget about its namesake altogether. Conventional wisdom holds that this is the finest hotel in India, the equal of any luxury hotel in New York or Paris, and given Indian architecture's flair for the dra ...

Taj Lands End (Hotels)

It might not be exactly the end of the world, but compared to the manic bustle of central Mumbai, the swanky seaside suburb of Bandra feels quite comfortably distant. It’s also, not entirely coincidentally, a convenient location for travelers with business in the districts of Bandra-Kurla, Andheri or Worli, and it’s this conjunction ...

Trident, Nariman Point (Hotels)

As the beating heart of the Indian capital’s financial district, Nariman Point has been the Manhattan of Mumbai for quite some time. However, when it comes to pricey real estate, Nariman Point makes even the Big Apple look reasonable. If you take a moment to consider the value of a 550-room tower like the Trident, its reputation as one of ...
