Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003, Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel and one of the most exciting cities that you will come across. With its beaches, smoke-filled bars, cafes, restaurants, chic shopping, great weather, and sophisticated lifestyle, Tel Aviv provides an enjoyable nightlife that is sometimes compared to New York for its modern, cosmopolitan flair. For food lovers, the city also offers the unique taste of Middle Eastern cuisine combined with traditional Jewish cooking. Tel Aviv is comprised of more than 50 different neighborhoods, each offering a different experience for travelers.
Tel Aviv’s Highlights:
The White City: This area of the city features around 4,000 modern, international-style buildings styled in a Bauhaus-type architecture. To fit the hot Mediterranean climate, many of the buildings are white or light in color to reflect the desert sun.
Old Jaffa: Considered the oldest port in the world, this is said to be the Biblical place where Jonah boarded a ship and was swallowed by a whale.
Tel Aviv Museum of Art: This is the largest art museum in the city, welcoming over half a million patrons each year.
Beaches: Strategically located along the Mediterranean Sea, the city offers fascinating beaches attracting different types of crowds. This includes the urban style Metzitzim Beach, the family-oriented Tel Baruch beach, the salt-water Gordon-Frishman Beach, and other small beaches like the religious Hadatiyim beach and the Hof Haclavim beach for dogs.
Ethnic Israeli Cuisine: Israeli cuisine is a melting pot of diverse flavors from the East and the West. Favorites include Moroccan Tajin (chicken cooked with dried fruits), Labane (a cold, sour tasting cheese), and Arab salad (thinly cut fresh vegetables and herbs).
Amusement and Waterparks: While most of these are only open on Saturdays and Jewish holidays, they’re still fun to treat the whole family to an unforgettable Jewish experience. Among them include Luna Park Tel Aviv, the largest park with the most child-friendly rides; The Meimadyon, a park known for its waterslides; and Superland, which has thrill-seeking rides.
The Dan group runs a small empire of glittery resorts around Israel, but with a new boutique facility smartly up and running in Jerusalem and now the Dan Tel Aviv, a new age of hotel style is dawning over the Holy Land. It’s a look that grows on you: the hotel building itself is a massive, concrete beach-front edifice with a rainbow superg ...
This Twenties mansion in the White City section of Tel Aviv has to be seen to be believed. Even as a building, irrespective of what’s inside, it’s impressive enough; it’s an authentic and well-preserved Twenties mansion in a hybrid Bauhaus-Ottoman style, a style that’s novel to those of us who aren’t Israeli archite ...
Viewed from the right angle, Tel Aviv looks as sophisticated as any of Europe’s style capitals. One such angle is framed by the rooftop lounge of the Brown TLV Urban Hotel, which frames the skyline’s nighttime panorama. Or from more or less anywhere inside the Brown, come to think of it — from the Seventies-inspired déco ...
