Venice, Italy, arguably one of the most romantic of all cities in Italy, was built upon many small interconnected islands. This northern city is a tourist haven as much for its unique transportation system as the plethora of outdoor festivals, favorable weather, and great food. Venice blends both modern and ancient architecture. A walk down any sidewalk of Venice will reveal cafes, museums, art galleries, and shopping. Among all of the experiences and sights of Venice to be experienced, tourists can get the best view of the city by going on a gondola ride or riding a waterbus. These short water trips will bring you under famous bridges, next to infamous buildings, and give you a glimpse into the heart of the city.
Our Favorites in Venice:
Rialto Bridge: This bridge is among the oldest and most famous of all bridges found in Venice. Central to the Venetian Republic, the Rialto Bridge was completed in 1591.
Doge's Palace: This palace was the home to Doge rulers and was the head of the Venetian Republic. It now houses various pieces of artwork and sculptures as well as the Giganti Staircase.
San Marco Square: San Marco Square is a central part of Venice and houses two monuments, Ducale's Palace and the original St. Peter's Basilica. Visitors are sure to be amazed when visiting this historic destination.
St. Mark’s Basilica: This spectacular sight features some of the most incredible artwork on the outside and inside facade. Although it is only partially open to the public, the enormous amount of art and history within its ornate walls makes it a must-see destination while in Venice.
Higher Council Hall: One of the most ornate artistic halls in Venice, wall after wall of this building is filled with paintings including the largest oil painting ever completed, “Paradise.” The artwork tells the story of Venetian history.
Once an orphanage church in which Antonio Vivaldi gave music lessons, the Metropole was converted into a hotel at the end of the nineteenth century. It was known in Freud's day as the Casa Kirsch, and as the Metropoli was briefly enlisted as a military hospital during World War II. For the last thirty years, the Beggiato family has owned and ...
Not IQs, as in Intelligence Quotient — though you will indeed feel smart staying here — but i Qs, Italian for, well, “the Qs.” This is an annex, or perhaps more precisely a satellite property, belonging to Charming House DD.724, and its four exceedingly stylish suites stand about twenty minutes from the main hotel, close ...
If ever there were a city that needed a bit of the old Philippe Starck treatment it was Venice. Here a little design goes a long way — not that you could accuse the Palazzina G (formerly Palazzina Grassi) of being just a little bit designed. Here Starck is at full strength: masks on the bedside lamps, comically exaggerated chandeliers, mir ...
It’s hard to beat this location; one entire side of the Hotel Londra Palace opens onto a stunning view of the lagoon and the island of San Giorgio, a view which, as the hotel is quick to point out, kept Tchaikovsky inspired during the creation of his Fourth Symphony.
A small hotel, comprising just 53 rooms and suites, the Lo ...
Of the two hotels on this Venice block, one might expect that we would prefer the Fifties-style Hotel Bauer; the city does suffer from a bit of antique overkill, and to be fair, the Bauer is a nice change of pace. But the real gem is the Bauer Il Palazzo—which is, as you may guess from the name, another in a long line of opulent Venetian p ...
Venice is one of the world’s most beautiful cities, with seemingly a hotel on every corner—but few quite like DD.724, a stylish (and very small) guest house that’s about as far as you can get from the full-service grand palazzos. After all, to come to Venice is to be steeped in the history of an ancient and unique place, and so ...
