Fukuoka, the capital city in the Fukuoka Prefecture and the major city of Kyushu, is one of Japan’s top five cities. It is praised for having a big-city feel mixed with sensational natural beauty and open spaces. The nightlife is energetic and the shopping is endless. Fukuoka also features traditional shrines and historical sites for the history-bound tourist. With extensive cuisine and festivals throughout the year, make sure you make the most of all that this lively, fun and beautiful city has to offer.
Fukuoka Highlights
ACROS Fukuoka Building: The amazingly designed ACROS Fukuoka building is definitely an astonishing structure. Architecturally, it is unique. On one side of the building, it looks like a simple office building. Walk around to the side, and there are garden terraces reaching 60 meters above the ground that merges with the last remaining green space in the city. Inside however, are shopping areas, eateries, offices and the Fukuoka Symphony Hall.
BigAir: BigAir is a fantastic indoor skiing and snowboarding complex. There is snow (fake snow – chemical free) all year round and all the gear you need to hit the snow is available at the park to rent.
Canal City: A “city within a city,” boasting a theatre, 13 full-size cinemas, an amusement park, shopping, restaurants, bars, two major hotels plus many more attractions and entertainment.
Shofukuji Temple: Japan’s first Zen temple was established in 1195 by priest Esai-Myoan. The temple holds some significant possessions belonging to Esai. Associated with the Renzai Zen sect, the temple is still used today by people wishing to pray and be at peace.
Yatai (Street food stalls): The streets of Fukuoka are dotted with food stalls when evening comes, with over 200 stores available. Local cuisine is on offer here and it is so good, it will give you the Japanese experience you will never forget.
