LLuxe City Guide Overview

The City of Tokyo:

As the wealthy capital of the Land of the Rising Sun, Tokyo is a huge high-tech city. Nightlife is very rich, with various disco bars and clubs, fashionable cafes and restaurants, not to mention the unique taste of Japanese cuisine. A paradise for shopaholics, visitors can buy anything from high-tech gadgets to fashionable clothes. With over 12 million residents in the metropolitan area alone, Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world.

Tokyo’s Highlights:

  • Shibuya: Shibuya is the central business district and the fashion center of Tokyo. It is particularly popular for young people as it is a major nightlife area as well. Shibuya is home of the Meiji Shrine, a very famous Japanese Shrine.

  • Shinjuku: Visitors can be entertained here by karaoke shops, spas, movie houses, music stores, department stores and electronic stores, making it the perfect areas for shopping and nightlife. The Tokyo Opera City skyscraper and the Shinjuku Gyoen, a large public garden popular for viewing cherry blossoms in the spring, can also be found here.

  • Tokyo Tower: Save some money and take time to experience the spectacular view from the Tokyo Tower, the tallest artificial structure in Japan. It is mainly used for communication, observation, and tourism.

  • Tokyo Disney Resort: Although not exactly located in Tokyo, this theme park includes Tokyo Disneyland; Tokyo Disney Sea, a parked focused on nautical exploration and adventure; and Ikspiari, a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex.

  • Sushi Breakfast: Enjoy this unique yet great-tasting Japanese food made of vinegar rice topped with other ingredients such as fish at one of the many restaurants located in the city. Visitors can also visit the Tsukiji Fish Market in Chuo for a taste of sushi or sashimi.

  • Public Baths: Take a break and try the Japanese culture of bathing at a sento (public bathhouse) for refreshment and relaxation.

Hotel Claska (Hotels)

It is virtually impossible to get a room at Claska — it’s got just twelve rooms, nine Western and three in traditional tatami style, and those twelve rooms are much in demand among the fashionable souls who populate Claska’s lobby scene. So it’s not out of lust for your money that we bring this fantastic hotel to your att ...

Marunouchi Hotel (Hotels)

From an urban planning perspective Tokyo’s Marunouchi district is something of a wonder: a massive development push resulted, seemingly overnight, in a brand-new commercial/retail district that’s, if vibrant isn’t precisely the right word, certainly thriving. And while some of the world’s top luxury-hotel chains have move ...

Hotel New Otani Tokyo (Hotels)

Anyone who’s stayed in the Club Level of an East Asian luxury hotel is familiar with the idea of a “hotel within a hotel,” a section of the hotel that’s as different from the rest of its offerings as first-class flying is from economy. In Tokyo’s Hotel New Otani we’ve found what’s perhaps the most striki ...

Mandarin Oriental Tokyo (Hotels)

It feels like there should have been a Mandarin in Tokyo ages ago — maybe they were just taking their time to make sure they got it right. What matters more is that now there is; and get it right they have.   Views are extraordinary: the hotel begins at the 38th floor, a height from which you can just about take in all of Toky ...

The Peninsula Tokyo (Hotels)

Like Moses just back from the mountain, we’re here to tell you that we have seen the Peninsula Tokyo, and it is good. Actually, good is a bit of an understatement. This hotel, let’s not fool ourselves, is enormously expensive — but it’s as close to worth it as any luxury hotel we’ve ever seen. It’s still perha ...

The Cerulean Tower Hotel (Hotels)

Foreigners traveling to Tokyo face a set of obstacles they are unlikely to encounter elsewhere — just getting around can be a struggle, given the sheer size and complexity of the city, and the fact that many streets seem to be unnamed. Selecting a hotel, one soon finds, is also not without its challenges.   Excluding such nich ...

Park Hotel Tokyo (Hotels)

Like many Tokyo hotels, the Park Hotel occupies part of a mixed-use skyscraper; in this case, ten uppermost floors of the Shiodome Media Tower, right in the heart of downtown. Architecturally, the Park Hotel is rather unique — the core of the building has been hollowed out, so that its 274 rooms all face outward. The result is a sun-drench ...

Conrad Tokyo (Hotels)

Conventional wisdom holds that anyone hoping for a glimpse of the future need look no further than Tokyo; this is as true in the hotel business as it is in fashion, technology or anything else. Here even the big-chain luxury properties cut a stylish silhouette with the kind of good looks that used to be the sole purview of the hipster boutiques, ...

Park Hyatt Tokyo (Hotels)

No one quite does over-the-top like the Japanese. Take the Park Hyatt toilets, which have enthroned everyone from Issey Miyake to authentic royalty and, reportedly, Leonardo DiCaprio himself. The electronic seat adjusts to your bum temperature for a cozy wait, while you watch a slide show of cherry trees and listen to soothing music. Yes, your b ...
