Moscow is the capital city of Russia and the seventh largest world city with a population of over 10,500,000. It has been the epicenter of Russia and the Soviet Union’s turbulent past. Today Moscow is a bustling metropolis where the past collides fiercely with the present. Its rich and varied heritage is evident on every street corner, beaming with secrets from long ago. If you get a cultural overload from the museums, you can go to Gorky Park to refresh. Enjoy the amusement park during the summer days and watch the skaters in the winter when all is frozen over. Otherwise, Moscow is a fabulous city to walk about and enjoy as Muscovites go about their daily affairs. In the evening, Moscow has acquired a splendid reputation for its world-class restaurants and nightclubs.
Moscow’s Highlights:
Red Square:This is probably the most famous location in Moscow and is usually the first place tourists flock to when arriving here. It is home to the Lenin Mausoleum, where the body of the former leader of the Soviet Union rests.
St. Basil’s Cathedral: This Cathedral dates back to the 16th century and was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible. Its brightly painted onion-shaped domes make it one of the most easily recognized buildings in Russia.
The Kremlin: This enormous site is another must-see for tourists. This historic fortress is made up of an ensemble of buildings, including four cathedrals, four palaces and the Kremlin Towers.
Bolshoi Theater:The world’s most famous ballets have been performed here, and whether you have an appetite for the fine arts or not, it would be a shame to leave Russia and not to have been inside this famous theater.
Izmailovsky Souvenir Market:In this lively and bustling market, you can find a vast array of Russian souvenirs as you walk among street performers and side shows. This enormous market is surrounded by a mock-wooden fortress and is adorned with charming statues from Russian myth and folklore.
If, twenty years ago, you could have predicted that Moscow would today be the most expensive city in the world — well, you’d probably be staying at the Ritz-Carlton, on Tverskaya Street, with views over Red Square. Here caviar and champagne don’t literally flow from the bathroom taps, but maybe they’re working on it &mdas ...
These days the first image that springs to mind about Moscow isn’t the scale of its monuments so much as the scale of its wealth. Those with the means in post-Soviet Russia are making up for lost time, consuming as conspicuously as possible. So the time is right for a place like the MaMaison Pokrovka Suite Hotel, a spanking-new 84-suite lu ...
