Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas, is a commercial hub and the cruising point of the elite. In the late 1600s, Nassau was a pirates’ den. Today, it is a prime tourist attraction. The flavors of the city come alive during Junkanoo, a colorful parade of elegantly and brightly dressed participants who dance to the tune of cowbells and whistles. The main shopping district is Bay Street, which features both souvenir shops as well as high-end jewelry stores. The Over-the-Hill district contains most of Nassau’s government buildings and business headquarters.

Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center: These adorable tropical gardens are home to the marching flamingos. The extraordinary march of the flamingos is spell-bounding. The zoo is widely known for its conservation efforts, providing a sanctuary for such endangered species as the Bahamian Rock Iguana, Bahama Parrot, and Bahamian Boa Constrictor.
National Art Gallery of the Bahamas: This museum highlights Bahamian artwork from the pre-Colonial era to the present day. Its collection includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, and more.
The Pirates Museum: Perfect for the whole family, this museum celebrates the time when pirates ruled Nassau. Visitors will feel like they are walking into the year 1716.
Fort Fincastle: Built in 1793, this fort provides an overview of the city and displays several cannons. It is a must-see attraction for history buffs.
Straw Market: Located on Bay Street, this local farmer’s market has expanded to become a shopping haven for tourist souvenirs. Visitors should come prepared to bargain for prices. US currency is universally accepted here.
Potters’ Cay: This destination is best known for its fish market, but it also offers Bahamian delicacies like conch salad along with fresh tropical produce. It is located under the Paradise Island bridge.
