Hawaii is the only state in U.S. made entirely of islands and is an archipelago, but this is not the only thing that makes it unique. Hawaii is also the only state that is not located (geographically) in North America and is the only place in the U.S. where coffee grows. Hawaii is completely surrounded by water and like Alaska, does not share a border with any other state. Hawaii also has a royal palace.
Honolulu Highlights:
Kauai: Waimea Canyon: This canyon is over 1070 meters deep, 16 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide and is the largest in the Pacific. It provides for a truly dramatic sight for tourists.
Kokee State Park in Kauai: An ideal spot for a picnic or tent camping, the park is full of lush green native plants, birds and insects. Trout fishing, pig hunting and plum picking is allowed in season.
Maui Ocean Center, Maui: An excellent place to experience marine life. Swimmers and divers can explore this 750,000-gallon Open Ocean exhibit up-close.
Waikiki, Oahu: Originally a playground for royal visitors. Explore Waikiki beach, the aquarium, the famed Diamond Head Crater slopes, Honolulu zoo, dine in the finest restaurants and party in the hottest nightspots. Central Waikiki beach is the most popular section and is a great place for surfing, sunbathing and people watching.
Na Pali Coast, Kauai: This pristine coastline has been the location for many films, including 1958’s wartime love story South Pacific and the Golden Globe-winning romantic miniseries The Thorn Birds, 1983. The 24-kilometer rugged stretch of coast is absolutely breathtaking. Stone-walled terraces and temples where native Hawaiians once lived can still be seen at the bottom of the valley.
Pearl Harbor, Oahu: Visit the infamous site, the attack of which brought America to enter World War II.
