Inca Trail Peru: Visit Machu Picchu

Waking at dawn, the verdant jungle is soft with dew as the morning mist rises from the world around you. Orchids which closed during the night have broken open to sweeten the air and the chatter of exotic birds pierces the silence of the Inca Trail Peru. The ancient cracked stone path meanders in front of you, sometimes precariously  clinging to the edge, other times running deep into the mysterious forests flooded with shadows and slants of light. Many make the journey to the dizzying heights of Machu Picchu, but few make the trek through the Andes, to conquer the route of the ancient ones and to experience the elements in all their glory.

Passing through the silvery mists of cloud forests, stumbling upon lamas grazing in the fields and meeting locals carrying the weight of the world on their back as they sojourn back to their remote villages, this is the dreamiest way to discover the hidden culture of Peru. Yellows, whites and pinks flush alongside the paths, bamboo sprawls and the peaks of the Andes soar around you, nestling you in their rocky bosom. The trail is a challenge, the road steep and the pass over Dead Woman Pass can leave you grasping at breath. Yet the rewards are crystal clear, especially when you stumble upon the view of the lost city from the Sun Gate.

Seeing the terraces of Machu Picchu clinging to the hillsides, watching the spiraling peak of the crumbled citadel shimmying above the low laying mist and taking in the sheer size of the ethereal kingdom will remind you why this is one of the wonders of the world. From the heights of the Andes down into the depths of the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail Peru is one cloaked in hidden riches, the art of ancient culture and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
