Photographed by Architectural Digest in February 2006, Mango Hill is located in the premiere gated community of Estate Shoys, and has 4300 square feet of interior living space with an additional 2500 square feet of covered verandas and porches. The house is furnished with antique West Indian furniture, oriental carpets and a museum-quality art collection. Fabrics from Brunschwig, Clarence House, Fortuny and Osborne & Little combine with sisal rugs to give a refined yet casual feel. 23 pairs of exterior French doors with pocket screen doors allowing for constant breezes to cool the house both upstairs and downstairs.

One approaches Mango Hill through butter-yellow columns and follows a Danish-brick driveway up the hill flanked by palm trees and tropical landscaping. The circular driveway at the top of the hill has a landscaped night-lit island with stepping stones through Washingtonian palms and lush flora. The gracious “welcoming arms” entrance is a typical West Indian architectural feature, ushering one onto the covered south veranda and into the coral stone entry hall with curving mahogany staircase, antique chandelier and sconces.

Double doors lead into the formal dining room and through to views of the Caribbean. To the left, through an arched doorway, is the very large comfortable living room decorated in a soothing soft blue palette, with several seating areas, a library of leatherbound books, game table, English trolley bar and sisal rugs. The gourmet kitchen has state-of-the-art European appliances, overhead fans and French doors onto the veranda. At the end of the kitchen is the family breakfast room, with flat screen TV/DVD/VCR , stereo speakers and French doors spilling out onto the poolside covered veranda.

The property is located five minutes from downtown Christiansted’s exceptional restaurants, art galleries and boutiques. Mango Hill is a stone’s throw from the Buccaneer Hotel’s 18-hole golf course, beach, restaurants, tennis courts, and shopping arcade, as well as Estate Shoys’ crescent beach.
