Route 66, Bangkok – A Nightclub with a Difference

If you plan on coming to Bangkok, and want a real Thai experience on a night out without the sleaze and smut, head over to Route 66, Bangkok’s well renowned night club. Located in the heart of Royal City Avenue (RCA), come any day of the week after 9 pm and watch the street come alive with locals dressed to impress. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone wearing sandals and a singlet here. RCA is a mile long strip of chic bars, multi room clubs and a handful of tasty restaurants, with the crown in the jewel being Route 66.

Route 66 is open everyday of the week and attracts a more upmarket crowd of westernized Thais and western expats. The club opens its doors at 7 pm, but doesn’t really hit full capacity until midnight. The club is split into 3 parts, one with a live band playing a mixture of English and Thai songs at one end, and a DJ playing the latest club hits on the other. Finally, there’s a small techno and house room in the middle of this venue.

Route 66 is unique in that half the club is open aired, and the other half shaded indoors. If you come with a group, it’s a good idea to take full advantage of the free table service, where you’ll have several wait staff at hand to bring all drinks to your table, so you’ll never have to queue up at the bar. They offer a wide selection of whiskeys to suit everyone’s palate, including Jonny Walker Black Label and even a selection of Cognacs.

Always bring ID; it will be asked for regardless of how old you look, and you will be refused entry if you’re wearing singlets or flip flops. The standard attire for men tends to be a nicely fitted shirt and chinos, with the women dressing in too many fashionable styles to list. Always keep an eye on for certain events, as specialist DJs also play their sets at Route 66 from time to time.
